Fake Gurus and False Promises Aside… Photo taken from Invest Fest Weekend Two weekends ago I took a business trip to Atlanta for the Second Annual Invest Fest Conference hosted by Earn Your Leisure, the biggest financial literacy podcast, which was sponsored in part by BET and Harvey Ventures amongst many others. More than 12,000 people attended the weekend of assorted activities ranging from expert-led discussions focused on investing, entrepreneurship, real estate, and financial literacy to live musical performances by known celebrities like T-pain, Rick Ross, and Queen Naija. She had heard about this conference for Investors and Entrepreneurs on the radio during the Steve Harvey Show. Not only was Steve Harvey going to be present and speak to the attendees, but Tyler Perry would be there, Eric Thomas, “billionaire owner of Chick-fil-a” Dan T. Cathy, “billionaire real estate entrepreneur” Donahue Peebles, Angela Yee from “The Breakfast Club”, and many many more. When we looked at our available budget, we could afford a VIP entry which was reasonably priced, a round trip flight, and a weekend stay at the Sheraton Atlanta, plus Uber travel fees while going to and from locations. In the past I have taken a few trips to Atlanta with other business partners and collaborators where we drove our own personal vehicles or rentals, but this time I was flying, and I would be primarily focused on my own company and brand growth… Photo of landing in Atlanta My home base is in New Jersey, but me and my executive team have been discussing business expansions down to Atlanta, one of the greatest cities for upcoming influencers, artists, and entrepreneurs. Since I already had exposure to the culture, it only made sense for us to start creating a bridge between our area (New Jersey, New York, Philadelphia) and the South. Finally it was time to put my team up front. After I landed and checked into my hotel, I made my way to VIP Night which began around 6pm on Friday. I knew that I would have a prime opportunity to be able to network within an event that hosted over 1,000 high ticket entrepreneurs, investors, and other talented individuals. If you went to this conference and didn’t come out with a new client, an opportunity, a cash flowing business, a new idea, or some form of new motivation, you missed out on the whole weekend. To start off, while I enjoyed the VIP styled entrees and sponsored drink by D'usse, I was able to connect with a few influencers, artists, and photographers with social media accounts ranging from 15k to 275k. Knowing how social media works, the more accounts that I have in my network with above 15k in followers, the higher value my social network will have. Even though I knew this, I would hear exactly how these numbers affect my brand on the next day… Tonight, we dance. Although I didn’t get a chance to stay for the whole VIP Night, I was able to get back to my room with enough time to prepare for the next couple of days ahead. Saturday. This was the big day. Keynote speakers, vendors, and massive networking opportunities. How could you miss this moment? More than 1,000 of those were VIP and up, so now I was sure that I could find the chances I was searching for. Before I could really network, I decided to take the time and sit in on the keynote presentations. Saturday I did a lot of connecting and networking in between sessions, the main connection was with a Public Relations Firm based outside of Atlanta. If You’re Going To Live Life On Interest… Your investment accounts are going to need to produce at least 10% of the total balance of the fund. What does this mean? Let’s say your income is $125,000 dollars per year. You’ll need an investment account of about $1,250,000 dollars yielding at least 10% per year to substantiate your income. In 2020, most 401 (k) contributions were around 7% of pay according to Vanguard 401 (k) plan data. This number jumps to 11% when employer contributions are included, but only 22% of 401 (k) participants saved more than 10% of their salary for retirement. In short… 88% of 401 (k) owners save less than the 10% needed to retire. No matter if they earn $30,000 dollars per year or $200,000 dollars per year, most do not have the money needed to retire at their current state. I have to harp on this so you get the idea of the picture I am presenting. Looking at the true and real financial market, in order for you to make major money plays with any financial institution, you must be an accredited investor. An accredited investor is someone with a special status under financial regulation laws. An accredited investor also known as a sophisticated investor is allowed to invest in unregulated securities, and they have or possess the know-how to handle all of the risks involved with investing. These investors are qualified and considered high net-worth individuals (HNWI) or high-income investors. Why is it important to be an accredited investor and why are unregulated securities good? If we’re being honest, how much money are you going to need in an investment fund in order for you to retire, and be taken serious as an investor? To both retire and be an accredited investor you might need more like $2,750,000 dollars in an account at a minimum of 10%; $275,000 { $125,000 for your personal life and the extra $150,000 to accredit yourself for other investments. Let’s look at this game much bigger than what we currently take it for. It’s important for you to be not just rich, but very wealthy so that you can take advantage of better opportunities. Starting today, from zero, you can grow over the next 5 to 10 years into an accredited investor that will be able to become a retired accredited investor over 20 to 30 years. After, you will be able to approach the tycoon status where you can lavishly enter and exit deals, and also create a beautiful portfolio of asset holdings and collections for yourself. Since the growth of "Reality" TV shows and now, YouTube, it's getting much easier to get in touch with the lifestyles of the rich, the famous, and the wealthy. Not only can anyone learn from these people, but they can also replicate and receive the same type of results. I'm going to share 3 essential tips that I learned from spending a weekend among high performing billionaires and millionaires. 1) Have A Business Plan. I've been in business for over 10 years. I've started 2 of my own businesses, I've been a part of over 20 different business ventures, and I've created the millionaire 7 streams of income. With my expertise I've created a simple but effective plan to create sustainable business success through business development. This works best when you create a brand, no matter if it's your personal brand, or a brand that you plan to grow into a major corporation. A brand represents a commitment, and having a plan for that brand is increadibly essential. I'll be sure to cover exactly why a business plan is important and simple steps in how to create one in another post. For now, I want you to do your own research on the topic to start the process, but here are a few things to consider: Leaders always have a plan, even when they have to create one "on the fly". 2) Have A Proof Of Concept Why is having a proof of concept important? - Because "the proof is in the pudding", meaning that the real value of something can only be judged from practical experience or results and not just from appearance or theory. So, the real worth, success, or effectiveness of something, esspecially your business plan and business brand, can only be determined by putting it to the test... By trying it or using it, with all appearances and promises to the side... Just as the best test of a pudding is to eat it; packaging and labeling aside. People will only believe in things if they have a reason to... If you don't present and communicate your value and your why clearly enough, people will never buy into you as much as they really should. If you promise something to someone, they're going to want you to prove it... Your brand is a promise to serve in the areas that you have offered your specialties, make sure you can keep your promise. I'll also make sure to go into more detail about proof of concept principles, for now take a look at these and do some of your own research: Leaders talk the talk, walk the walk, and show others how to do it. 3) Take Action There's almost nothing worse than having a good idea, and doing absolutely nothing about it. Can I share a secret with you? The smallest idea acted on, is greater than the best idea sat on. Successful people really respect people that take action for what they want out of life. Successful people really work with people that are doing something in their life. Successful people really care about those that care enough about their own life. If you plan on being successful in any area of life, you're going to need to take some level of action, whether it's on an entry level or whether you're hitting those executive places. Action gets your life in motion and aligns your dream life with your real life. Have you ever been on vacation by the beach? Or... Have you ever just visited the beach and took a stroll on the boardwalk? While strolling on the boardwalk, have you ever noticed the number of random novelty shops there are available on each strip? The one thing I want you to understand about all this is that these novelty shops sell t-shirts. Why is this important for you to know? I want you to realize that these little shops make hundreds and even thousands of dollars daily, simply by making and selling t-shirts. There is a way that you can make money by designing and selling your own custom t-shirts. How? When I was younger, a friend of mine had immigrated to America from abroad. His dad found great opportunity in creating and selling t-shirts on the boardwalk for years since they had arrived. As we grew up, I occasionally had the opportunity to sit in the shop during the summer and watch how business was done. I even had my share of experiences leading a few of the customers to sales. One day when we were older, they had expanded their operations and decided to manage their own clothing stores within prime retail locations; malls to be exact. This is when I truly got to see the bigger success model behind creating and selling custom t-shirts. We were selling our regular shirts for $25... Custom could cost you at least another $10-$15... And if you wanted a special coating to protect your shirt images, it would cost another $5-$7. -- Me, myself, I would sell about $650-$1,200 per day in t-shirt packages. -- My sales staff would conduct sales ranging from $350-$950 per day in t-shirt packages; we had about 2-5 other workers with me on a given shift. You can see that the money was rolling in pretty heavy if you do the math. Unfortunately, at the time I didn't. I wasn't counting the money that was actually passing by me, nor was I paying attention to the money I was making, because I was content with my salary and the future possibilities. Things didn't work out and I ended up leaving that business which set me up to be able to work at a mass production print shop. Guess what we printed... More t-shirts. We designed them. We printed them. We shipped them. Everything from beginning to end, we did. But we also hung signs, we printed banners, we wrapped vehicles, we even supplied the school uniforms for a mandatory dress code... None the less, I still didn't truly focus on the money being made by t-shirts. Clients spent at least $10 a piece for 24 shirts which is $240 dollars; on big orders, clients would spend about $6.50 a piece for at least 100 shirts which is $650 dollars. I recently worked as a contractor for a private fashion company, and it was a similar situation. What if you could increase your profit margins? Do you know how to increase your profit margins?
